Red Varietals

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
Forefathers
Alexander Valley

2012 was marked by extremely small berries. Nick believes that this vintage has more classic Cabernet flavors than others. Small berries make the wine very intense. With the cool season, sugar accumulation was not an issue and hence the picking decision was determined only by the lateness of the season. This wine is marked by big, powerful, rich fruit and long supple tannins interwoven with toasty wood. Never fails to please.

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon
Yoeman
Alexander Valley

Deep purple-red, blueberry and cherry aromas and flavors. Black cherry, sweet plums, and currant fruits are paired with smoky oak, dried herbs, and caramel. This wine has considerable grip that will soften with age. The key for this wine is to show that we can make “killer” wine in the Alexander Valley as well. Not just in Napa. Big and rich nose. The most complex style of wine possible.  Drinkable now, or cellar for the coming years.

2012 Malbec
Chacras
Mendoza, Argentina

Black cherry, plum, earth and smoke in the nose with blackberry and spice on the palate. The wine is nicely balanced and finishes with dark chocolate and sweet spice. Complexity is really the statement with this wine. When we grow at high altitude two things happen: Lower alcohol and more acidity. The finished wine shows lots of red cherry and blueberry fruits.

Chelsea Goldschmidt
Dry Creek Valley

Ripe black cherry, anise, and mocha aromas. Packed with juicy blackberry and red cherry fruit flavors with notes of cedar and dried herb. Rich and soft mid-palate; more full-bodied than many Merlots, finishes with spice.  Fresh fruit is the order of the day but one with depth and complexity that only comes from great vineyards and meticulous winemaking.

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon
Game Ranch
Oakville, Napa

The 2011 Game Ranch is very aromatic and younger in the nose than I would have expected. The fruit is bright and peppery and shows a beautiful integration with the French Oak. The mouth entry shows dark, black fruit with early spice. The palate is classic Goldschmidt Oakville with creamy, elegant fruit which is nicely rounded. The finish is a little tight today but will evolve gracefully over time. Drink now through 2025

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon PLUS
Yoeman Vineyard
Alexander Valley

Deeply concentrated yet focused, with highlights of tobacco, mocha, and blackberry in the nose. This vintage is broad and rich with a soft opening of savory blackberry, red currant, fresh herb, and chocolate flavors. More elegant in style compared to previous vintages and more approachable. The generous use of new French oak marries perfectly with the ripe fruit and leads to a finish showing vanilla and toasty caramel.

The 2011 Game Ranch offers intense power and generosity but with a higher natural acidity than previous vintages. It has an outstanding potential to age 10-15 years. The finish offers richly textured tannins with chocolate notes.
